Big Game Hunting

The Staff at Sportsman’s Paradise are very excited to add Mt. Pisgah Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit (CWMU) to our outdoor experience.  We are now able to offer big game hunting along side our premier fly-fishing and wing shooting.  The Mt. Pisgah CWMU is a group of five ranchers who have combined their range ground into a CWMU totaling close to 11,000 acres.

The CWMU program has been developed to help preserve the state of Utah’s big game winter range.  Over 60% of the state’s big game winter range occurs on private land.  The increasing development to satisfy human needs on these ranges will significantly reduce Utah’s big game herds and recreational opportunities, unless actions are taken now to preserve this land.  The Mt Pigah CWMU landowners have joined this program in an effort to protect this valuable winter range.  Their only incentive is the opportunity to extend the duration of the hunting season in order to bring in big game hunters with improved harvest success and less hunter competition.  They have been doing this for a few years now and the numbers and quality of elk and deer are beginning to be realized.  When we started this adventure, the deer herd was depleted and there were few elk.  After five years of very limited hunting we are now seeing fine animals. The Mt. Pisgah unit sells their CWMU vouchers to big game hunters through Sportsman’s Paradise.

There is no other place in the nation where a sportsman can hunt mule deer and/or elk during the cool of the autumn mornings and evenings, slide mid-day into the mountain springs which are home to countless rainbow, brown, cutthroat and cutbow trout.  If you would prefer to do some bird hunting, you could spend your mid-day on a wing-shooting extravaganza, claiming partridge or pheasants behind gracefully skilled hunting dogs, or you may decide to enjoy the mid-day relaxing in our rustic private cabins with all the modern comforts and conveniences.

The hunting dates for Mule deer and Elk are managed extensively.  The Deer Hunt begins in September and ends in November, the Elk Hunt begins in September and ends in November.

Please call us for dates as these dates change each year.

All nine weeks will be managed so that no more than two hunters are on the 11,000 acres at any given time.  We prefer to bring hunters in on Sunday afternoon so they are ready to hunt Monday morning and then depart on Saturday afternoon.
